Shoot.

So Im sure most of you guys have seen one of those doorbell videos of mailmen tripping on the sidewalk or a moment that wasnt meant to be seen, which usually tend to crack me up. Ive always wondered what it would be like to have my own video like that, where my mailman was falling or a funny embarrasing moment. And I got somewhat of a taste of that last year, when my grandpa got a ‘Ring!’ doorbell. It is motion detecting, and will record anything it can view.

Well at first it couldnt record you. It only took pictures if you pressed the doorbell button because my grandpa didnt know he had to pay for it to record. They got it recording again after a gift card on christmas, and shortly afterward they went on their annual vacation to Florida. I called them Friday afternoon and got all caught up, and thanked them for something they sent in the mail for me.

This afternoon my parents had gone to the store to get snacks for the super-bowl, and came back to eat lunch with us when they were done. A little less than an hour after they had been home, my aunt had called and told us something that had been happening. Apparently a guy, mid-50’s, had been walking around their house the past few days and even this afternoon. It would have been a little less creepy if my grandparents didnt live on a private road, half a mile away from a normal ‘public’ road. My aunt forwarded the video to my dad, and we watched it in silence. The setting looked familiar, their old wooden porch, but out of the corner of the video the guy began walking up the porch.

The part that freaked me out the most was that he came from the right side of the porch. The left side of the porch comes directly from the driveway to the front door, so that means that he was in/came from the back of the house. The video shows him coming from the area in which their playground (for the younger kiddos and my little cousins) is located. Now I have seen some creepy videos of robbers scoping out a house to make sure nobody is home and then breaking in. Thats almost the exact vibe he gave off. He got up on the porch and seemed to notice the camera and quickly walk away. The video ends with him driving up their driveway in a white 4-door truck.

I, for one, am pretty freaked out. We go to that house about once or twice every two weeks when my grandparents are there. They also live alone, just the two of them, on a private road that is pretty far away from any sort of help. Im scared, and yeah i overthink things, but i still think im being reasonable.

They have called the police, but to no avail…they found nothing. No trace of the car or anything. I wish they could do something, because I have a lot of precious memories in that house and I wouldn’t DARE step foot into that house if it was robbed. They have so much stuff there too, family pictures and items that used to belong to passed family members. They have a lot of expensive jewelry and gadgets and whatnot because well, they have a lot of money. I’m getting anxiety just thinking about…whatever is possible.

Currently the last time they saw the guy was almost 3 hours ago, around noon. My parents have headed out to look around their (my grandparents) neighborhood to see if they can find the truck or the guy. My aunt and uncle are also planning to park their old car in the driveway to see if it will scare the guy off. I really hope nobody gets hurt, and there are knots in my stomach just thinking about what the guy could be up to. He seemed to be walking quick, as if he was in a hurry or trying not to get caught if anyone happens to “be home”. But it only lets my mind wander more. He obviously noticed the camera, so what if he remembers to avoid the front of the house and just stick to the back? And how long could he have been looking around? The first the camera picked up of him was only a few days ago, but what if that was an accident and he had been there much longer? what if he set up like…traps or cameras and he can just…attack them.

Okay, I’m overthinking again, but all we can do is wait. wait until he breaks in, wait until he attacks. we definitely aren’t going to be able to play outside when my grandparents come back and we have a family dinner. Oh geez, I am scared.
