Guinea Pigs

So for a while now I have wanted a guinea pig. Like, really badly. I have been doing all this research and doing everything I could to try and convince my parents. My dad absolutely loves the idea of one, and is helping me try to convince my mom. But the only thing that is holding her back (for now…) is that she thinks they smell like pee. What should I do? I cant mention it for a while cus she yelled at me for saying they dont stink. But do you guys know anyone who has guinea pigs? Like, I want one so badly and that is the ONLY thing that is stopping me from having one. I can pay for all its needs and whatnot, but what should I do?? ~ Sad boi (girl)

  1. I haven’t had guinea pigs, but I know a little bit about them and I’m a hamster geek.

    First of all, do you have enough space? The minimum size for a guinea pig habitat is at least 7.5 square FEET.

    Secondly, guinea pigs CAN smell, but it’s normally just because the owner is neglecting them by not cleaning their cage or wherever you’d keep them. So if you are a good owner, then your guinea pig shouldn’t smell so bad. If you house your guinea pig in a good sized space, it will take longer for it to smell/for you to need to clean the space.

    Also if you are worried about stink even with that said, maybe keep the guinea pig in a basement or someplace else where you aren’t normally at.

    If none of these tips help persuade your family, you’ll have to prove that you are responsible enough to keep up with the guinea pig’s habitat so that it won’t smell.
